Joseph Abolafia, a Seattle native and Queen Anne resident, started his career 30 years ago at Yuki and Wendy’s Salon in Madison Park. It was there he mastered the skills that later become the trademark for Salon Joseph. He opened his first salon several years later with business associate Rory McGowan (Coupe Rokei), until his departure to open Salon Joseph in 1985.

Joseph traveled to Europe to attend Institutes in Paris and London as well as spending time in independent European salons. He has attended hair shows in New York, London, Paris, and is a graduate of the Tony and Guy advanced academy in New York and Los Angeles. Ongoing advanced education and training his staff has been Joseph’s passion for his entire career.

Joseph’s gifts for creative design and fashionable yet easy-to-manage styles have earned him many rave reviews as well as a very loyal client base that has been returning for nearly 30 years. Joseph is well known for his work with local News Anchors, numerous models and conducts many photo sessions. You’ll find Joseph working side by side with his stylists, still as excited about hair now as when he first started. Jonathan Flint

Jonathan’s work is known to be creative, edgy, and unique. He provides consistent, cutting-edge designs that are easy to style and compliment the hair’s natural growth and texture. Jonathan graduated from Greenwood Academy of Hair in 2000, joined the Salon Joseph team and completed his apprenticeship and advanced training with Joseph. Jonathan has continued to develop his skills with extensive classes with TIGI, L’Oreal, Vidal Sassoon, Graham Webb and other featured artists. He has also completed intensive courses in New York with Toni & Guy in 2004 and TIGI in Las Vegas in 2006. His talent is evident in the finish work of his fabulous cuts. In addition, Jonathan is a skilled instructor for Salon Joseph’s advanced training program.


Anna Schumacher

Always smiling and full of energy Anna is a sassy stylist who keeps clients entertained with her "Anna-isms", her Southern accent and marvelous sense of humor. Anna graduated from Greenwood Academy of Hair in 2003 and joined Salon Joseph completing an intensive apprenticeship under Joseph. She also has a BA in Theater and French and works closely with local actors and on air talent. Anna continues to regularly update her skills with advanced training classes. Anna has an affinity for creating fabulous, luminous blondes. She also works closely with cancer survivors in different stages on their journey to beautiful hair providing supportive care and complimentary hair styles.


Travis Hopkins
Artistic Specialist


Highly skilled with color and other chemical services, Travis has received recognition in Seattle Magazine as "best new stylist" in 2006.Travis has an exceptional talent for reds, "turn your head reds" which wow everyone inside and outside the salon. Travis graduated from Dahl’s College of Beauty in Montana in 1996. In 2000 he completed advanced training at Gene Juarez in Seattle and in 2001 became a color educator for L’Oreal in the Seattle area. Travis joined the Salon Joseph team in 2004 and continues to update his education with L’Oreal, as well as advanced cutting and color classes. Travis also offers facial waxing services, bridal and special occasion hair.


Ashley Alhadeff

A versatile, fashionable, and upbeat stylist Ashley is highly gifted with cutting and color services. Ashley has a natural way with hair and an eye for detail. Ashley graduated from Greenwood Academy of Hair in 2005 and joined the Salon Joseph team. She completed her apprenticeship and advanced training with Joseph in 2006 as well as completing advanced training from TIGI in Las Vegas. Ashley continues to update her skills with regular advanced cutting and color classes. Ashley enjoys men’s cuts and working with curly hair of all types.




Heather Ross

Heather is a native of Seattle and has been working as a stylist since 1996 in the Queen Anne and Magnolia area. She is a graduate from the Gene Juarez Academy, a leading training program in the Pacific Northwest and has continually kept her skills sharp through specialty classes where she learns the latest techniques in styling and coloring. She loves to find the perfect look for her clients and is always willing to try something new. Her chair is always open to new clients and she enjoys building new relationships with them.


Monica Potter

Monica started her salon career as an apprentice for the Manu Salon in Los Angeles in 2000. She graduated from Greenwood Academy of Hair in 2005; joined Salon Joseph in 2006 completed her apprenticeship and advanced training with Joseph the same year. Monica keeps her skills fresh with consistent training classes with L’Oreal and other featured artists. She has been hairstylist and make-up artist on set for local commercials and photo shoots. A highlight of Monica’s offerings includes special occasion hair, makeup and brow shaping. She has an artist's flair for very striking and feminine up-dos. Ke'sha Vitartas

Ke'sha Vitartas has been with the salon for over two years now. She has worked in a few salons before finding her home at Salon Joseph. She has trained extensively with Joseph and is a master at cuts, colors and all types of foiling and dimensional color. Ke'sha is also certified to use LO'real's new no ammonia-free color product INOA. Her work schedule consists of Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Renee joined Salon Joseph in 2005 managing the front desk and retail area in a professional way. After working for the Shoreline School District in Special Education for 13 years, she currently enjoys the Salon’s fast-paced atmosphere while interacting with great clientele.

Mary Ellen is our salon matriarch, keeping things running smoothly and managing the front of the salon since 1998. Mary Ellen worked for 28 years for Seattle public schools as a librarian. She was born and raised on Queen Anne and lives in the house she grew up in today.
